Miniature Drawing Tips Books

I'm really excited and happy to say I've just finished my 50 handmade limited edition drawing tips books. I'll post details soon of where they go on sale. Here's some pictures of how I made them:

Sewing the book spines:

Making the books:

Each book is constructed of a concertina centre of information which is also printed on the reverse, there are three pieces of cartridge paper to draw on, two pieces of info paper featuring my contact details and Nightowl logo, and it's all encased in a red cardboard cover, stitched in the spine and held together with a ribbon.

Wrapping the books in cellophane:

An exhibition including two pieces of my artwork

Two pieces of my artwork are going to be displayed as part of a group exhibition of female artwork in London throughout October. The show will run from 3rd - 25th October 2009.

The private view night is Saturday 3rd Oct (6pm - 9pm) which unfortunately I won't be able to make, but if you do decide to go could you please take a photo of my work and send it to me so I can post it online. I might be able to make it to a night towards the end of the month but it's not definite.

It sounds like it'll be an amazing display and the venue is apparently very beautiful as it's being held in an old church crypt... so just wish I could go but hey ho. would be good to know what you thought if you do decide to go.

It's been organised by Marie Maynard of the WAM Exhibition (The women's Art Movement) CIC

If you go to the private view bring a bottle of booze to drink as drinks won't be supplied.

Free Entrance

Opening times Tuesday-Sunday 12-6pm

The Pulchritudinous Review

I've had a couple of pieces of artwork featured in The Pulchritudinous Review hand bound arts magazine.

Here's a few pictures of my work in the book:

Here's some info about this issue:

The Pulchritudinous Review is an arts magazine with an emphasis on avant garde poetry and graphic art. Renée Zepeda edited and compiled it using a rare & highly desirable scarlet letterpressed cover printed with sea-blue ink in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The cover paper is handmade from Nepal; the red thread is archival. This issue will be handbound with a Japanese binding and approximately 75 pages. Poetry comprises the majority of the content, but there are also short stories, photography, and paintings. Featured writers and artists include: Anne Waldman, Alice Notley, Ann Mikolowski, Elizabeth Robinson, Roberto Tejada, Christine Hume, Matthew Rohrer, Timothy Callaghan, Nicola Pinder, and Chris Weige, among others. As a bonus one original handmade collaged postcard from a collection of only 500 will accompany the magazine as an insert.

Carry Your Heart EP on Radio 1

I recently created some artwork for Catherine AD current EP, and on New Year's Day you will be able to catch the very first play of 'Carry Your Heart' on national radio, as it'll be played on BBC Radio 1 from 7pm!

The EP can still be pre-ordered through Catherine's myspace page, or from Rough Trade and Pure Groove.

Catherine will be hosting a little anti-valentine's party on Saturday 14th February at Notting Hill Arts Club from 4pm to 8pm to commiserate/celebrate its release. You can expect some very special appearances as Indie-rock-stars-do-80s-power-ballads, DJ sets from Catherine AD, and the boys from Ultimate Power, a broken heart emporium and lots lots more. And it's FREE ENTRY (over 18s only).

I will also be at the party with some kind of stall selling lots of handmade heartbroken treats such as illustrated badges, Victorian styled optical toys, paper broken hearts, and hopefully some limited edition (one of a kind) hand screen printed and customized t-shirts.

Carry Your Heart EP

I've just completed creating the artwork for Catherine A.D. new EP which is called 'Carry Your Heart'. For this Catherine and I have collaborated on creating the concept and the artwork together as we are both making elements of the packaging and artwork. The concept idea comes from the lyric in the song - 'I danced you to the edge of love and / I folded your heart into mine to make a paper dove'.

Here are the finished EPs:

The limited edition EP is now available to pre-order at Rough Trade and Pure Groove

These are some photographs of the drawings I drew in my sketchbook for the CD sleeve:

These are close-ups of the drawings:

Hummingbird

Dove

It's an exciting project for me as we've already previously collaborated several times for EPs and various promotional media, and we're taking this project a step further with 500 specially packaged and limited edition CDs, which will be available from February 9th, but you can also pre-order them here: Catherine A.D. Myspace

We're hoping to also make an extra special batch of the Carry Your Heart EP for which I'm intending to create some small pieces of handmade artwork to go inside the CD packaging.

You should check these out when they go on sale as the CDs themselves feature a drawing by myself of an origami hummingbird:

The CD sleeve features more pencil drawings by me of mathematical styled origami instructions of how to make a paper dove:

The exterior packaging is being lovingly created by Catherine herself with beautiful hand made paper which will be wrapped around the CD sleeve, and then tied individually with lace in a corset fashion. The photograph below contains examples of her previous EPs and this one will have a similar external appearence:

These handmade CDs are just one of several handmade EPs and CDs Catherine has created for her amazing music, and you can find more about where you can find them and purchase her music and CDs handmade via the links below. For more info about the new EP click here: Carry Your Heart EP

I also recently created the artwork for Catherine's last EP called The Bedroom Sessions:

It's available to buy from various sites including ITunes, Amazon, and eMusic
